Yo Gabba Gabba-A Review of the Kansas City Show

By Alexandra Shalton November 13, 2014
It has been 3 days now since our awesome experience at Yo Gabba Gabba Live: Music is Awesome! show, and we are STILL singing our favorite songs! The show was in Downtown KC at the Midland Theatre with two showings! The 3pm show was perfect for us! Not too much traffic and aside from some construction it was the perfect location!
I highly recommend getting there a bit early. There is a small merchandise table with everything Yo Gabba Gabba and also a photo booth with every one of the character's backdrop! It's all free and they provide signs promoting healthy eating for the kids to hold up! Don't forget your phone! And don't forget to use the hashtag #ygglive if you post on Twitter! (I'll tell you why later.)

The fun began before the show with videos of songs played during the TV show. The kids were ready to see their favorite characters Muno, Plex, Foofa, Toodie, Brobee, and DJ Lance Rock! The lights went down just enough so that it wouldn't be difficult to keep an eye on kids. I really appreciated that one. DJ Lance appeared on the screen in colorful stars. "Dearly Beloved, We are gathered here to get through this thing called life." I really hope I wasn't the only adult that got especially excited when I heard that! After an explosion of confetti, all the characters were on stage! Chicken, carrots, and juice boxes danced down the aisle to "there's a party in my tummy". It was awesome from the very beginning!

The show was only about 1 hour and 20 minutes, that included a 20 minute intermission. The screen during that time projected pictures and tweets with the hashtag #ygglive ! I, for one, was happy for this little break. It was great for those parents with kids that got way too excited and had an accident during the beginning of the show.

The lights and videos on the screen were energetic and fun! It kept the kids attention of the stage did not. The characters performed songs like “I Like to Dance”, “Get the Sillies Out”, “Hold Still”, “Bubbles”, “Don’t Bite Your Buddy”, and many more! Along with a game favorite, “DJ Lance Says”. Special guests included an R&B group known as Connection. They came out during The Super Music Friends Show and performed “I Love Bugs”. Biz Markie also made an appearance with his fun to learn beat boxing skills. At one point he asked the parents to get up on their feet and show our kids what real music was about. Songs like “Jump On It” and “Let Me Clear My Throat” played and again…I think I was more excited than my kid!

Towards the end of the show we began to get ready and out of no where DJ Lance Rock came running by and gave my son a hug! I half expected him to be freaked out but he gave him a high five and DJ Lance was on his way. A very special treat I must say!
Seeing the biggest smile on my sons face during the entirety of the show was the best part. Being able to have fun and share in the excitement together made the entire thing more than worth while!
I have just a few pointers in case you do plan to attend one of these awesome shows:
-Get there early to have fun with the photo booth and backdrops!
-If your child has their own Yo Gabba Gabba character toy…BRING IT! It will help to distract them from the merchandise table.
-Let your kid have fun! In no time the aisles were FULL of kids jumping and dancing around! That included some parents too!
-If you know the songs, SING THEM! It is so much more fun for your kids if they see you singing and dancing along too!

I was given complimentary tickets to review this show via Macaroni Kid. Opinions expressed are my own. AS
