As a little girl, I loved playing with dolls. I always knew I wanted to be a mommy. I took "my babies" with me everywhere, to the park-to the store-in the car, even putting them to bed at night! But I never thought I would be lucky enough to be MOM to 10 fabulous living beings! Yes, you read that right, 10!
I gave birth to my first lovely daughter at 19 years old, and I was immediately smitten, intensely in love with this beautiful child. Number 2, a girl followed 17 months later. Who says you won't have enough love to share? My life was a whirlwind for the next several years. As a single mom, we did everything together-went to the park-the store-car rides-and tucking them into their beds with snuggles and hugs each night. I was living my dreams.
I met my husband when the girls were 3 and 4; he loved them as his own. He had told me when we met that he didn't think he could have children, as he had been previously married for 8 years and no children. Imagine my surprise when I found myself pregnant shortly after we were married! Four boys followed in quick succession! The girls loved their new baby brothers. A little time passed, and four more followed-girl, boy, girl, boy. Our littlest sports an extra 21st chromosome, also known as Down syndrome.
Although life can be difficult at times (can you visualize the laundry?), we can not imagine our lives without even one of them. They have added so much to our home and our lives.
As much as I fell in love the first time I gazed into each one of their eyes as they were first placed into my arms, that love has only flourished and grown. They are becoming adults with their own accomplishments, personalities and gifts, something that I could have never imagined when they were toddlers getting into everything. I would not be who I am today without every single one of them and the beautiful blessings they have brought to my life both individually and as a whole.
So thank you Alexandra, Carly, Kevin, Brandon, Owen, Zachary, Annalise, Timothy, Cecelia and Gus for making me a MOM. I love you to the ends of the universe.
