School’s out for the summer! This means no more classes, homework, or tests. However, for certain students, the absence of school also means no more assured meals. During summer vacation, many children lose the access to free and reduced meals that they depend on during the school year. To bridge the gap, there are various community programs set up to provide support throughout the summer.

Blue Springs: From June 10th to August 16th, students have the opportunity to receive complimentary lunches from various local venues. Sandy's Restaurant, Blue Springs School District, You Matter Movement, The Table, and numerous other community businesses and individuals have collaborated to bring this initiative to life! Learn more about it here!

Independence: This summer, the Independence School District is providing complimentary breakfast and lunch to children aged 1 to 18 at specific sites. The meal service runs from May 29 to August 7. Details of locations and meal times are provided on their website. Meals must be consumed on-site, and enrollment in ISD schools or programs is not necessary. Certain adults aged 18 and above may also qualify for free meals if they meet disability criteria. Eligibility extends to adults recognized by a state or local educational agency as mentally or physically handicapped and participating in relevant school programs.
